Our doctor’s bag service helps GPs and medical practices keep their prescriber bag stocked with the emergency medicines listed under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Your practice sends us an order, we prepare the items, and we send them to your clinic. Medicines go out routinely to the doctor surgeries and medical establishments we supply. The service suits practices that want a local pharmacy to restock their bag when items are used or reach their expiry date.
Below is what a doctor’s bag is, what we supply, how ordering works and how delivery works.
Under the PBS, eligible prescribers can get a set list of emergency medicines for their doctor’s bag, now called the prescriber bag, at no charge. They can then supply those medicines free to patients in an emergency. The PBS sets which medicines, and how many of each, each type of prescriber can hold. You can check the current list on the PBS Prescriber Bag page.
Our order form lists more than 30 prescriber bag items. They include injectable and other emergency medicines such as:
The items you can order, and their quantities, follow the PBS prescriber bag list for your prescriber type.
Clinics within a 30 kilometre radius of our pharmacy get free daily deliveries, including all medication and necessary materials. If your practice is further away, ask us about delivery when you call.
As a compounding pharmacy and a member of the Professional Compounding Chemists of Australia (PCCA), we prepare medicines that doctors prescribe for patients who can’t use a commercially made medicine. We also work with nursing homes and aged care facilities and with fertility clinics.
Prescribers who are eligible under the PBS prescriber bag arrangements, such as GPs at medical practices. Each type of prescriber has its own list of items. If we have not supplied you before, we will confirm your registration or PBS prescriber number.
Items on the PBS prescriber bag list are supplied at no charge to eligible PBS prescribers, who can then supply them free to patients for emergency use.
Eligible prescribers can order a Prescriber Bag Supply Order Book from Services Australia through their Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) account.
Each PBS prescriber bag order form is valid for the month shown on the form.
